If you are like Gill then you have probably enjoyed 'making things' almost as long as you can remember. Gill fell in love with making flower arrangements at 11 years of age simply because there was a horticultural show being held and the school near where she lived and the local NAFAS (National Association of Flower Arranger Societies) flower club was running a children's competition.
Creating impact with minimal materials is achieved by creating Contemporary Flower Arrangements (CFA) and Gill's classes and workshops offer many different contemporary flower arranging techniques as well as classes for Traditional Flower Arrangement (TFA)
It's all about you. There are flower clubs across the country and they are always looking for new members so seek out your local flower club, try a few and find the one that most suits you. Flower for you and your friends can be elevated by knowing more about flowers; how to design with and look after them. There are Flower Arranging courses to attend, Free Flower Arranging Videos to watch and many Flower Arranging Books to read. A great way to dip in is watch any of the Free Flower Arranging Videos or visit a NAFAS flower club as a visitor and watch a floral art demonstration.
When it comes to flower arranging it is hard to imagine a more thorough work out for the mind as when working with flowers and designing it takes your thoughts in so many different directions; from colour to shape, texture to form. The design you're working on interprets emotions and conveys the theme you are expressing. There is the spatial relationship between the components and the dexterity you require to cut and place the components precisely.
What can you do next? You could choose a Flower Arranging Course to attend and then give Gill a call to discuss, or you could visit your nearest NAFAS flower club or start watching the free Flower Arranging videos that are available on this college website. Once you are underway to become a flower arranger you may also wish to know that Gill's most popular Flower Arranging Book is ' 50 Techniques Used in Contemporary Floral Designs' and Gill has it and her other books available for you to review at the different shows around the country that she attends and available to purchase from this college's website.

Workshop #1 With the Lonely Bouquet campaign approaching in May (Friday 5th May) - why not come along to this workshop at NAFAS HQ on Thursday 6th April 2017 and learn how to make 3 different contemporary, cost effective hand tieds/ structures so that you can either make yourself or perhaps teach your Flower Club colleagues. These handtied designs are also ideal gifts for friends and family; using a total of 20 roses during this workshop.
Refreshing changes to the way you can learn.
A typical week for Gill includes floral art demonstrations (often booked 2 to 3 years in advance) and flower arranging workshops around the country. Gill also provides existing students with 'One-to-One' lessons where they study either flower arranging or floristry.
For new students and workshops Gill maintains a flexibility in her busy schedule so that she can take on new teaching and demonstrating commitments. As a new student all you have to do is contact Gill to discuss what you wish to learn and with some dates that are suitable to you and in discussion arrive mutually agreeable dates. Gill can also walk you through the option on cost of tuition and materials that would be required.
Gill offers the flexibility of 'One-to-One' lessons so that students can learn what they need to learn to achieve their individual goals without making the time commitment expected of them if they were otherwise to attend traditional college courses. Gill lessons are all about concentrated practical learning Student goals can, for example, be to achieve a higher practical grade in their floristry exams or to improve their creative skills when they design their next floral design.
Workshops provided by Gill can be held at your local venue or run for your group of friends and often by businesses who wish to help their staff develop new skills; banqueting and hotel staff come to mind. There are just so many people that do not have the time to attend the traditional longer term college courses yet really love making floral designs and want to do something new, refreshingly different and one day workshops are a very good solution.
You choose when; from available dates. The college's website depicts many different courses, that have been run previously, as a source of the variety of subjects that you can learn. Armed with an understanding that you can organise your next lesson as either a One-to-One, or as a Workshop, your next best step is to call Gill to discuss what you have done so far, what you would like to do next, where and when it could be taught. Gill in return can clarify any questions that you have, offer available suitable dates and advise the likely cost of materials and cost of tuition.
